I suspect the "no elbows on the table" rule came from having many people around the table, also the possibility it might tip the table. When I have room, my elbows are on the table sometimes. I have descended into anarchy.

@poemblaze Right there with you. I've been known to set the table with the napkin on the right side of the plate.
