This crepe myrtle is 5 or 6 years old. When I first got it, it was a tiny stick with a root. I wasn't sure if it was the bush or tree variety. Definitely a tree. Need to trim it this fall now that I know what I'm dealing with.

When I looked online I was surprised to find I'm on the upper end of elevations where crape myrtle are found. I'm at 520 ft

@poemblaze Ma'am ;)

I only know cuz I got my first crepe myrtle since our zone changed this year and was reading up on it.. LOL

@poemblaze

People around here, maybe half of them, brutally cut them down every year. They're stunted and have big knobby scarring. We aren't on board with "Crepe Murder" - he'll prune only the minimum and only as necessary. The ones that are allowed to grow properly are amazingly beautiful and healthy!

@poemblaze

Lovely to hear! Yeah, breaking people around here of that "habit" seems impossible. πŸ˜”

GORGEOUS!

They're blooming here - at least the ones that haven't been butchered are. Giant blooming canopies are making our dog walks so much more enjoyable!

@Agatha @poemblaze

That was this morning. I keep wondering though. How long do they live, tornados aside?

@Sr0bi @poemblaze

Depends on variety, care, climate, etc. 25 years typically and up to 100 years on the outside.
