Installing Windows is still as much fun as it was in the days of 13 floppy discs. ๐ Some things never change. ๐คทโโ๏ธ ๐
I spent > 2 hours on it this evening between the installation running and all the setup crap before you even see the desktop.
It didn't fix my flashing monitor problem, either. ๐ Didn't really expect it to, just wanted to give it one last chance. I think I can still fix it down the road.
Next I'm installing Linux Mint! Start the timer, and hold my beer! ๐ค ๐
Iโll hold your beerโฆ but if youโre installing Linux Mint- Iโll have time to sit back, put my feet up, an drink an entire six pack before youโve got time for the beer Iโm holding. ๐
@QueenOfEverything
Ruh-roh! ๐ Long install? Mint was sort of a quick pick, right now running it on a thumb drive.
I'm open to suggestions on other distros if you have a recommendation. I'm ditching Win, so looking for something solid, secure and robust.
Heh heh hehโฆ. You made me laugh bc I do remember installing gazillions of disks back in the olden daysโฆ but even after all those decades I still have to get the dummies guide for anything new.
An Iโve cold bear just sounded really goodโฆ and I donโt have any- so I offered to hold yourโs.
besidesโฆ. I have an 8 year old MacBook Pro and it only has 1 USB PORT- that is for the stupid mouse and it drives me crazy. I really need the beer more than you.
Hereโฆ hold my computer! ๐บ
@QueenOfEverything
LOL, right on! ๐ You can be the designated drinker. Virtual drinker, since you don't have any. ๐ป ๐
That turned out to be a good time to pause and shake out the stress of a Windows installation. Gotta stop and play with your peeps! ๐ ๐ฟ๏ธ
I figure I'll run into some interesting spots, but looks like they've got this Linux installer streamlined compared to the old days! ๐ค
Glad to be of serviceโฆ. just hearing about your computer work made me feel much kinder to my aging MacBook Pro. So I went out to my kitchen the and made an excellent White Russian.
Congrats to both of us for this fulfilling interlude! ๐

@p3R1n01D what's your ultimate goal vis-a-vis device access? RST will have a perf edge but AHCI is super stable usually. If you don't have any odd HW, I'd go with RST but you might want to put the system disk on AHCI for more HW swap out possibilities later.
@hallmarc
Thanks! My ultimate goal is a dual-boot setup with Win and Linux, but Linux Mint seems to have issues with RST.
One article sounded like Win might not boot if I changed to AHCI, so thought I'd best pause and consider. No biggie if I lose current Win installation, though.
I'm having an unexpected crash-course in how to get old-school with the new stuff. ๐
I have a weird issue since a Win update last weekend, causing display issues. Stubborn fix, seems like time to go Linux.
Restart your timers, I ended up chatting for more than an hour! ๐ ๐คฃ Got a nice snack and made some fresh coffee too, so I'm ready to dig in! โ ๐ช
