@nursefrombirth Wastewater never lies, because everyone “contributes” to it. Still, for to show up in there must have been quite a few “contributors”, not just one random person.

@cassandra17lina I was thinking the same thing. Evidently, it was an area, Rockland County, where vaccination rates are about 61% vs 93% nationwide. So I'm concurring that there must have been quite a few contributors or that's one POTENT virus.

@nursefrombirth @cassandra17lina It is a largely Hasidic Jewish community. A Rabbi had explained in another incident that there are cultural and religious traditions that prevent them from taking any vaccines. Some schools in the area banned children from attending because they did not have the basic required vaccines. Even though Rabbi's have pleaded with them it is a major hurdle.

@nursefrombirth @cassandra17lina My apologies I should have said Orthodox, not Hasidic...they are entirely different...

@TomB @cassandra17lina @Tail @smittycanada1
Here we go found this article suggesting 1000s are infected.
It appears that this county had the same issue with measles in 2019.

NY county with polio has pitiful 60% vaccination rate; 1,000s may be infected

@nursefrombirth Jeez. If it is in the wastewater, I would assume it is in the community. Scary.

@nursefrombirth And here I was thinking polio was gone forever. Lol, how naive of me. Maybe once ebola gets here things might change, but I doubt it.

@Tail Yes, I think we all thought that but this county has a very low vaccination rate and according to the article "Given the low vaccination rates in Rockland County, it's woefully unsurprising that polio has managed to experience a comeback."

@nursefrombirth I was under the impression that everybody got their polio vaccines in like 1st grade.

Should we be more wary of polio than monkeypox?

@Tail IMHO yes. Polio is not curable whereas monkeypox can be treated and cured. I'll search for a bit more evidence before I render my final opinion 😍

@nursefrombirth well here's hoping for the best. Which, for the US, is realistically not that great.
