It's an almost-600-page book, but worth the read because it focuses on a pivotal year in a great country, where some were struggling for the civil rights of disenfranchised people, while others resisted.

Was this all for naught? No. It can never be so. We need to double our efforts.

@sfleetucker Given the numbers, you are probably correct.
Well, as far as I have found, the House of Representatives numbers are still not final. I hope that the Democrats get control of that, at least.

"What an irony that on the same day an older woman goes to court to face the consequences of a rape culture, a rapist is voted into the highest office of the land in another country.
When Gisรจle decided that 'shame must change sides' and asked for the trial to be held in public, she transformed her pain into something powerful which provided opportunities for us to talk about how sexism and misogyny feed into rape culture."

"I know many people feel like we are entering a dark time, but for the benefit of us all, I hope that is not the case. But here's the thing, America, if it is, let us fill the sky with the light of a brilliant, brilliant billion of stars. The light, the light of optimism, of faith, of truth and service. And may that work guide us, even in the face of setbacks toward the extraordinary promise of the United States of America."

"The greatest evil is not now done in those sordid "dens of crime" that Dickens loved to paint. ... it is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voices."
Hope needs compassionate action. Best to be compassionate anyway.
Many self-avowed 'critical thinkers', especially on Twitter, seem to not think critically.
