@naikarrah oh! No!!! The Indian cricket team was down under this past few weeks :(

@tusker3701
absolutley NO ONE is entering AU or NZ without going directly from the port of entry to a quarantined hotel room for 14 days, (at their own expense.)

@naikarrah oh, good! But what about those leaving Oz?

@tusker3701
when you leave AU, it depends upon the country/ies you are traveling through/into how they handle it. Up to now, the US had released all travel bans except the majority muslim country ban (which WAS law until Biden wrote it off!) The US never had a comprehensive quarantine plan for travelers entering the country. don't think we do even now.

@tusker3701
the key here is airports, air planes, and every potential contact in between. in the case of the people for the AU Open, they privately chartered 3 planes for travel to AU.

@naikarrah is the AO on track? Sorry forgot to check, are the big 3 playing?

@tusker3701
as far as i know, the AO *is* on track, unless someone in the quarantine that has not yet tested positive becomes positive during their 14d quarantine..
AU is REALLY stringent about testing and tracking. If your state/territory has border closures/restrictions due to an outbreak in another state/territory, the residents are only allowed ONE contact bubble (household) and the people/address in your contact bubble must be registered with your local NH office.

@tusker3701
the grand total of COVID-related deaths for entire country of Australia?
990.

and they admit that it's too many. fine for not wearing a mandated mask? $1000 in QLD.
break a curfew in QLD? jail and *hefty* fine.

yep. it's a "Fuck around & find out" nation.

@naikarrah โ€œbetter to be strict than sorryโ€ seems to be the mantra and it at least helped save lives unlike some countries that took it lightly in the initial days and I guess they are the only country considering suing China

@naikarrah Honestly, with the amount of Rikishi who were symptomatic or contracted COVID-19 I was incredibly surprised they held the Grand Sumo basho these last 2 weeks in Tokyo.
