@BlueStateBabe I think your car may indeed be in trouble. The light should have gone off as soon as you leveled up the oil. Best case a leak / worst case head gasket is going.! Get it checked! Best wishes!
@BlueStateBabe Blown head gasket usually means an engine rebuild. Let's hope it is not that.
@mims I googled symptoms for blown head gasket, and all say that there should be a milky substance on the oil fill cap.
Just went out with my night time head gear lights on, popped the hood and removed the cap. Nope. Nothing like that.
Fingers crossed it is something else that is minor.
@BlueStateBabe If the light is on again or still when you got home the oil may be just pouring out. DO NOT drive it until you have a trusted mechanic take a look. It may have to be towed. Also just look under. is there oil everywhere?
I've been there.
@mims That's the weird part. My car is always parked in the same spot. No oil on the pavement. I'm surprised there was no check oil notification, but maybe check engine covers that?
@mims
The gas station attendant mentioned a head gasket may have been impacted. I have no idea what the symptom of that would be, though. Guess I need to Google.
