#jazz is the umbrella
term describing most music
i listen to
it's a huge umbrella tho
covering a large range
of different sounds
some i am very fond of
some i like
some i hit the stop button
and move on quickly
the draw for me
i believe
is that while listening
my mind is set free
to ponder
to contemplate
to meander thru topics
with unpredictable twists
and new directions
as the music itself
is not bound by convention

one world - one language
perhaps
speech stream segmentation
is what a non native speaker of a language has learned when they say they have learned to think in that new language
words and grammer are just bits of new information to memorize
either could be brought into another language if they do not already exist in it
but speech stream segmentation changes the cadence of the processing of information
it is a new pathway of thinking
perhaps the main obstacle
to one world - one language
one world - one language
a language has:
words of discrete meaning
grammer to order words based on how they modify each other
speech stream segmentation to provide the cadence of intake of words and grammer
any language gleefully adds new words
grammer is not as inflexible as it may seem on first glance as alternate ways of ordering words still get the point across
but speech stream segmentation breaks everything up into the amount of information your brain is used to processing at once
i recently read an article about an aboriginal language that illuminated a new concept for me
and added more bubbling on the back burner in the issue of one world - one language
speech stream segmentation
each language uses a particular method to group speech segments to assist in its interpretation
the separation emphasis might be on syllables, particular words, or an entire sentence
this is why a non native speaker is more difficult to understand when speaking your language
unite the world under one language
an issue i have been cogitating about most of my life
tho it has mostly been sitting on the back burner bubbling away
needing more information and inspiration
picking the base language seems a huge sticking point
many tie their cultural identity to the language they use
one problem they say is missing words to express nuance
perhaps
bring those words or an analog into the proposed base to make it more robust and expressive
more word variety is a plus!
like a rainbow
like colors separating from light
with a prism
notes serenely separate
from the whole sound
make their statement
and reintegrate
the individual notes
express their difference
are appreciated for themselves
but combine in the whole sound
for a fuller, richer experience
people in the world
perhaps take note

in my patch of forest in the #PacificNW .
a good rain last night!
the small birds are celebrating with song and baths and picking thru the grass for fallen seeds.
the snails and slugs are on the move, their cute eyestalks leaning forward into the future.
the garter snakes are laying on the surface of the ground listening with their whole body.
the crows are cawing as their wings cut thru the air.
the 3 ravens are perched in the tops of tall trees more deeply commenting on the goings on.
