Today is new watch day. I needed a “beater” that I could use while working outside doing outside things and not worry about bashing it into something. Casio GAB2100-1A. Solar powered / Bluetooth connectivity.
@scottronaut5150
Absolutely. I had one years ago. One of the originals, and it was tough as nails.
This one could also be a decent SHTF watch too since it's solar.
My mechanical watches would be good for that too, until such time as I needed to service them.
@mikeflstfi I’m curious what the Bluetooth connectivity would be used for
@scottronaut5150
Time syncing with your phone, and you can control all the watch features with the app that it uses on your phone. This model does not feature radio-syncing to atomic clocks.
Plus the usual data collection about me, I'm sure. Even though I opted out of whatever I could.
@mikeflstfi lol, another tracking device, gotcha and thanks
@scottronaut5150
To be fair, though, the Bluetooth connectivity is optional. The watch works just fine without it. So down to personal choice, really.
@mikeflstfi And, bluetooth is cheaper than an atomic clock receiver, so I could see the attraction. My beater solar G-Shock is only 3 seconds off the time I set 10 years ago when I last set it (had to replace the illumination battery)! @scottronaut5150
@scottronaut5150 I had an old little G-Shock strapped to the tractor. No solar, wasn’t sure how old it was when I strapped it on. Figured it’d last a few years. Finally disintegrated last year, after 12 years on the tractor. Battery still worked, the case just finally fell apart. Must have been 15+ years old. @mikeflstfi
No doubt they are quality items. I expect this one to last essentially the rest of my life.
@kay_dub @mikeflstfi that’s pretty incredible
Now you’re going toward my design
@LnzyHou
It's a good design. I like analog hands and coupled with digital makes for a good combination.
Still want skeleton analog with silicone band.
@LnzyHou
Yep. You're on the list, whenever you're ready. 😃
@mikeflstfi I still have my Gshock WaveCeptor. Solar powered and connected to one of the atomic clock transmitters. Literally never wrong!
@stueytheround
Excellent choice, mate!
I've been itching for a solar watch for a little while now. This one fit the bill nicely.
@mikeflstfi I like the look of this. G shock was always my go to back when I wore one. They can take an incredible beating.
