Horsehead and Flame Nebulae, from my backyard.
Let’s see if this gets more engagement here than it has on the platform formerly known as Twitter (zero none nada).

Was attempting to get better colors when I realized some of Saturn's moons had been captured, which was pretty exciting! There were 4, but I couldn't quite tease out Dione. Had enough trouble with the other 3! Not sure if these colors for Saturn are any better/more accurate/whatever, but I like it.

Not an especially good photo, but the only one I was able to capture in my severely light polluted skies. Jupiter is rising at the lower right.

The Orion Nebula, also referred to as M42 (Messier 42). Imaged from my backyard on 1/13/2023 and reprocessed.

The Rosette Nebula, imaged on 1/14/2023 from my backyard. I posted this before but this is reprocessed and, in my opinion, much better.

Finally had a clear night (February 3) to capture - what else? - Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), but the night featured a nearby 96% waxing gibbous moon & very high humidity, which were NOT helpful.

Made some adjustments in Photoshop. Not sure if I like this version better or not.

The Rosette Nebula. First attempt at narrowband imaging through hydrogen alpha, OIII (doubly ionized oxygen) and SII (ionized sodium) filters, using the Hubble Palette (assigning SII to red, Ha to green & OIII to blue). About 2 1/2 hours of data. Really needs a lot more total data and this image is dominated by the hydrogen alpha band, but for an image that I didn't plan and decided to attempt on a whim on my second night out with the Takahashi Epsilon 130D scope, I'm pretty happy with it.

Didn’t quite make it to my goal of 1,000 miles for the year (thanks, holidays and December weather), but it leaves me with an achievable goal for 2023. One positive note - I’ve ridden 2,062 miles since June 2020. Not bad for a senior citizen.

There wasn't quite a conjunction/occultation in the Houston area, but it was a relatively near miss.

West Texas skies, from a 2006 trip to Big Bend National Park

Waiting for the night skies to clear so I can capture some more distant photons, so here's something from 2013, Comet PANSTARRS & the setting moon.

My favorite place on earth, Banff National Park, Canada

Features Great Red Spot and the shadow of Jupiter's moon Io.
