School District: "School is in session and on time today!"

Two minutes before the 12yo steps out the door, it starts snowing again.

Fun times.

Lots of snow, power just went out. Laundry was in the washer because that seems to be a trend in my house with power outages. Aaaaanyway, fingers crossed it's not out for days and days like it sometimes is in my area during winter storms.

Couldn't sleep last night until I put every single thing I'm worried I'll forget to do this week in my to-do app. Turns out, it's a LOT of things. Many of which are upcoming debut book related. Which means I'll probably end up playing Timberborn all day instead because that's too many things and my ADHD brain just can't with that right now, sorry.

The one thing you SHOULDN'T do (and I'm really bad about this) is make yourself feel guilty because you're being "unproductive." Productivity is overrated. Bouts of productivity require periods of non-productivity in between or else you'll burn out. Breaks are as important for working toward your goal as the actual "work." And having taken a week-long break, I'm now logging off for a bit and getting some writing in. I hope this was helpful!

How do you rest and refuel your brain? It'll be different for everyone, but some things I find helpful are reading someone else's words (though sometimes even this is too much), switching to a different form of creativity like drawing or painting, playing a cozy video game while I just zone out, going for a walk, taking a nap, etc. YMMV

So just like you shouldn’t do a hardcore workout & then do another one without resting for a day or 2 & refueling your body with food & water first, you shouldn’t force your brain to keep going if it’s telling you it’s tired & needs to replenish. This is something I’ve had to learn the hard way, especially with both fibromyalgia induced brain fog & ADHD, because it seems like my brain needs rest & refueling OFTEN. And it is SO FRUSTRATING. But ya gotta do it. <3

Some advice I gave to a writing partner this morning who asked if it's possible to write too hard and break your brain, lol.
When I feel like this, I find it’s my brain telling me it needs to refuel.

Love it when I wake up before the rest of the household. It happens so rarely. Everything is so quiet and still.

So thankful I'm not the one hosting Thanksgiving this year. But I do get to make and bring the pie! And pumpkin snickerdoodles!

You probably already think that CounterSocial is cool, but did you know that you have your very own Wall of Entropy that's helping to keep your account safe? It's true!

I didn't know you could buy this. I've just been using chocolate chip cookies. 😆

This is AMAZING. 😂 Hamilton: the Musical sings The Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Me: Well, at least the demise of the bird app will free me from a huge source of distraction, I guess!

Also me, replacing the bird app with 3 more social media accounts:

All of my friends fleeing the bird app are now scattered across three different social media platforms, which is to say, in addition to Counter Social and Mastodon, I have now caved and created a Hive account. (Gotta say, of all three CoSo is my favorite.)

Also also me, after looking up how many crew members the ship would need: "Okay, cool, but is there a ship that's the size that I want that only needs, say....4 people?"

Reality: "Uh....NO."

Me: "I'm going to write a book that takes place on an antique wooden sailing vessel!"

Also me: knows nothing about ships.

And now off to start winding down for bed. G'night Coso!

And another one for the playlist. Icelandic artist Axel Flóvent's gorgeous "Your Ghost."
