HAPPY NEW YEAR!! What are you looking forward to in 2023? I'm definitely excited, because it's my authorial debut year! DREAM TO ME comes out in just 1 month on January 31st! Have you preordered it yet? If not, you'll find a link to do so in my bio!

Welp, my entire left arm and shoulder have been claimed, so I guess I'm done writ--oh never mind. She just got up. Bummer. (Yes they're sideways, and I could fix them, but eh.)

Couldn't sleep last night until I put every single thing I'm worried I'll forget to do this week in my to-do app. Turns out, it's a LOT of things. Many of which are upcoming debut book related. Which means I'll probably end up playing Timberborn all day instead because that's too many things and my ADHD brain just can't with that right now, sorry.

The one thing you SHOULDN'T do (and I'm really bad about this) is make yourself feel guilty because you're being "unproductive." Productivity is overrated. Bouts of productivity require periods of non-productivity in between or else you'll burn out. Breaks are as important for working toward your goal as the actual "work." And having taken a week-long break, I'm now logging off for a bit and getting some writing in. I hope this was helpful!

How do you rest and refuel your brain? It'll be different for everyone, but some things I find helpful are reading someone else's words (though sometimes even this is too much), switching to a different form of creativity like drawing or painting, playing a cozy video game while I just zone out, going for a walk, taking a nap, etc. YMMV

So just like you shouldn’t do a hardcore workout & then do another one without resting for a day or 2 & refueling your body with food & water first, you shouldn’t force your brain to keep going if it’s telling you it’s tired & needs to replenish. This is something I’ve had to learn the hard way, especially with both fibromyalgia induced brain fog & ADHD, because it seems like my brain needs rest & refueling OFTEN. And it is SO FRUSTRATING. But ya gotta do it. <3

Some advice I gave to a writing partner this morning who asked if it's possible to write too hard and break your brain, lol.
When I feel like this, I find it’s my brain telling me it needs to refuel.

Also also me, after looking up how many crew members the ship would need: "Okay, cool, but is there a ship that's the size that I want that only needs, say....4 people?"

Reality: "Uh....NO."

Me: "I'm going to write a book that takes place on an antique wooden sailing vessel!"

Also me: knows nothing about ships.

And another one for the playlist. Icelandic artist Axel Flóvent's gorgeous "Your Ghost."

Now onto my playlist that I'm slowing putting together for my current , which takes place in . Found this fantastic song, "Into the Dark" by Icelandic duo Between Mountains. Enjoy! youtu.be/Tp4AHG8OkRg

I'm only at 7,538 words total, so it's not like this is going to give me an edge or anything, lol. Should be at 26,667 words by now. But that's fine, because my actual goal is getting these first 3 chapters written and polished to send out as a proposal by the end of the month. And I have one chapter left to draft, so that, at least, should be doable.

If you accidentally end up using over 700 words to write a "quick summary" of a scene before actually writing said scene, you should totally be able to count those words as part of your word count. (And I did).

Ahhh! I was having such a grumpy morning, then my editor alerted me to this! A glowing review from Publishers Weekly for my debut, DREAM TO ME! Day. Made.

Wow, I haven't had a 3k writing day in a very long time! Feels wonderful!

So....I was going to write tonight. But instead, I got sucked into Timberborn and I honestly have zero regrets. Early access is available on Steam, for those interested.

Is it ok to shill my debut book here once in a while? Because it comes out in less than 3 months! But if you're a member of Netgalley, you can read an advanced copy and review it right now, if you'd like. Or you can add it to Goodreads. OR you can just go ahead and preorder it because of course you're going to love it, right? Right?? I'm just saying. Anyway, there are links for all of these activities right here in my linktree k'byeeeee. linktr.ee/meganpaasch !

Debating whether I should attempt JuNoWriMo to get my first three chapters written to send to my agent. My record for finishing nanos isn't great, but I'm not getting ANY writing done right now, so maybe it will provide a little motivation?

I've handwritten 5 "pages" on my Remarkable 2 today, which is more than I've written in weeks. Fingers crossed I can keep it up, now that I have a decent start.

Do people do writing sprints on here? I might need to do some of that tomorrow if anyone's game. No promises though. It's going to depend on if I'm feeling better. But hopefully? I'm behind where I'd like to be.
