Reddit is trying to strongarm protesting communities into ending their protest by threatening to remove moderators who won’t comply and give sub control to any who agree to reopen. Fuck Reddit and fuck spez. If keeping user-created and user-maintained communities available for Redditors is so important to them maybe they should reconsider their shitty course of action instead of stealing people’s communities and give them to admin collaborators.
@MidnightRider yeah, it’s a 79 C3 and we knew it had problems but not that it was literally unsafe to try to drive! The only symptom we experienced as far as the brakes before it broke down due to other issues was that they felt very soft. Once we put in more fluid and tested it, the brakes started to make terrible grinding sounds.
Actual Corvette update: As it turns out, we’re extremely lucky that the carburetor was busted and we broke down and had to tow it over 100 miles. Not only was it leaking brake fluid, the brake rotors are trashed—we knew neither of those things when we attempted to drive it home—so it was super dangerous to take it on the highway.
I’m collecting funny things my husband has said while working on our 79 Corvette with the tag #overheardinmygarage
First entry:
“Hmm… I need a turkey baster but I can’t leave.”
3/ posts replaced with bolts that weren’t quite the same size as well as a valve being held open with a zip tie, so we replaced the carburetor and then husband tuned the engine. Husband’s friend who lives 12 hours away and used to be a Chevy mechanic has been helping him troubleshoot virtually using photos and videos. And now I’m hearing such amusing sentences as “[Friend] wants me to go turn the steering wheel and see if it leaks.” My personal feeling is that a project car with nothing that
2/ customizations starting with a hilarious paint job but also including several mysterious buttons and switches whose purposes we’ve been investigating ever since we got it. A couple turned out to be engine things that are a bit complicated for my level of mechanical knowledge, one turns on little lights under the hood so you can see what you’re doing better, and a couple we still haven’t figured out. The issue that caused us to break down was apparently caused by the carburetor which had two
1/ I have a bit of a saga to share. Last week, my husband and I bought a 79 Corvette C3 from an old guy in Mississippi. Actually picking it up was quite an adventure because it broke down 40 miles into the drive home, and we ended up waiting on the side of the road for 3 hours and then getting it towed 125 miles by AAA. Anyway, we got it home but it turns out it wasn’t in as good of shape as the guy said (and genuinely believed, I think) in several ways. Also it has a number of strange
@jasod i did a tiny bit of the open beta weekend and really enjoyed it! husband won't play because he doesn't want spoilers before rollout lol
@jasod no i've been playing baldur's gate 3 early access. but i hit the end last night so i guess i will now!
forcing myself to finish knitting my future nephew's baby blanket before i start my sweater feels very much like forcing myself to eat the less good-tasting thing on my plate before i eat the thing i actually like. except in this scenario my wrist is also cramping terribly and it takes like 25 hours instead of 2 minutes
