I don’t understand why airlines are allowed to overbook flights and put random people on standby against their will. I booked our flights SIX MONTHS AGO and I’m on standby but my husband has a confirmed seat. Why is that a thing they can do?

@lemontart They do it here, not sure about 6 months in advance though.
