Had enough White Knight for now. Switched back to Fresh Roasted Coffee's Organic Drago Blend. Finally getting a good cup. Left a five-star review on their web site and ordered a new supply of it.
White Knight blend again this morning. "A light roast for the dark ages," goes the selling point. Phooey. It's just under-roasted coffee.
Moving on, working on a cup of White Knight blend coffee. Had trouble with my Keurig machine and a couple of White Knight pods last night - the machine overflowed. Can only imagine that the pods were too tightly packed, or that I didn't push the needle down far enough into the pods. Whatever - it's working this morning.
Starting off a potentially rainy Saturday with a cup of Fresh Roasted Coffee's White Knight blend (https://www.freshroastedcoffee.com/products/white-knight-fto-coffee-pods). Kind of bright on the high-end, but missing something in the middle range of the mix. Drinkable.
First caffeine of the day: Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Kochere varietal from Fresh Roasted Coffee (https://www.freshroastedcoffee.com/products/ethiopian-yirgacheffe-coffee-pods). Makes for a wonderful score on the Scrabble table.
It's been a couple of days since I started using the Coffee Tamer, and I can really say it's cut down on my burping. The only thing I really don't like is I can't drain my cup anymore. They say the stuff is tasteless, which is true until you hit the undissolved sludge at the bottom of the cup - it tastes like minerals. So, if you're going to use it (and I recommend it if you get gas or upset stomach from coffee), stop with a bit left & rinse your cup. Otherwise, thumbs up!
Learned something about that Coffee Tamer de-acidifier stuff - do NOT forget to rinse your cup immediately after you finish drinking! If you do, you'll wake up the next morning to a calcium quarry in the bottom of your cup. It's removable, but it's an extra step you don't want to have to take before your morning cup is poured.
Trying out the Coffee Tamer packets (https://calciblend.com/product/coffee-tamer-packets/) on a cup of Organic Drago espresso blend. Used two packets yesterday and still had some burping. Used three packets today, and I've got to admit - the stuff cut my burping down to a single burp. That is a measurable difference on the good side!
Faster start to the morning today! Going straight for Fresh Roasted Coffee's Organic Drago Espresso Roast (https://www.freshroastedcoffee.com/products/drago-coffee-pods). Definitely a darker taste than the Tiger Nebula blend I've been drinking, but Mrs. Capt. likes it best.
Still gives me coffee gas, though.
Now drinking the last pod of the Tiger Nebula blend coffee. Will move on to less experimental things tomorrow morning.
Of course, with the first sip came the first burp of the morning. Ordered something called "Coffee Tamer" (https://www.amazon.com/Coffee-Tamer-Packets-Reducing-Granules/dp/B00C6GWY1E) that's supposed to do away with that. Will receive some time next week and shall report on its effectiveness/taste/other properties.
It's going to be another slow start to the day. Just now finishing rehydrating myself with a regular glass of tea. About to move on to coffee.
An explanation for why coffee causes burping and other side effects, plus how to deal with them:
Finally! Time for coffee. Tiger Nebula blend again. Time to knock out some of the cobwebs that the painkillers have installed.
When you're on disability retirement, there actually *is* a time when it's too early for coffee.
Believe It Or Not!
(Mostly due to the fact that the painkillers haven't kicked in yet.)
A simethicone pill seems to have taken care of the coffee gas. Phew. Now drinking tea with what little tonic was left in the bottle.
Now imbibing coffee, and suffering another side effect - coffee gas. Is that another "it's just me" symptom, or do other CoSoNauts get it?
Morning tea and tonic - check.
Tiger Nebula blend coffee - check.
Tea imbibed - check.
Coffee imbibed - not quite yet. Gotta let the stuff cool a bit first. Does anyone else have that problem? Can't handle screaming hot coffee?
Coffee, tea, and tonic water duly imbibed. Drinking a bit more tea & tonic since my fingers are still doing a little dance - this time, Fever-Tree's Light Tonic Water mixed with my tea (first time I've tried that).
Tiger Nebula blend again today, but it's waiting until I finish a glass of doctor-prescribed tea and tonic water.
The tonic water is for muscle spasms in my left hand. My fingers like to move on their own. Naughty fingers. They're being treated with Fever-Tree tonic water (might as well use the good stuff).
Waking up with Fresh Roasted Coffee's Tiger Nebula blend.
And a leftover beef burrito.
Hey, what better way to celebrate a negative bone biopsy test? 😋
