It’s not quite there, yet, but I did figure out the “main” mainspring issue. It’s running but not quite as well as I want.

@kismatt
As okay as I can make it. I think if you look close enough, you can see the balance wheel isn't 100% true in the flat. It's close but for a 7j "everyman's" watch, it may never be perfect again

@mikeflstfi You replaced the staff and the jewel, and it's still wobbly? Yikes. The whole balance may be off axis. Or the pivot point is crooked.

Kinda like when I hit a curb with my wheel and bent the rim. The center of the wheel was still flat bolted to the axle, but the rim was totally out of alignment.

Good luck!!! Replacing that riveted pivot is not fun, as far as I can tell watching others do it on YT.

@kismatt
These Waltham's are friction fit balance staffs, so not quite as bad as the riveted ones. The side shake and end shake are okay on the balance, but like you said, the rim is a little, tiny bit tweaked.

If I had a truing caliper (it's on the list to buy), I'd work on it some more.

@mikeflstfi I like that when I played your vid, I could hear the watch ticking. :D I can't hear my OWN watch ticking, but I could hear yours!
