Today is the first day of my new running program. It has been years since I last ran, and I would like to get back to it as part of my weight loss and fitness journey.
It was a light walk/run of just a mile, but it was a start.
@ReneeVoiceBrand the Couch to 5K runner app by Fitness22. It coaches you and gets you started with walk/run intervals. It slowly builds stamina by increasing the run interval length and reducing the walking. They encourage you to start with slow jogging for the runs.
I have used it several times and I think it is great. If you follow the app’s advice, you won’t dread the runs, and will likely avoid injury.
@kendonnelly 😎 😍 Cool! THANKS!!!! I'm going to download the app!!! Much appreciated!!!
@ReneeVoiceBrand let me know how you make out. It is good to have running buddies to support each other. It can help burst through the roadblocks when you just don’t want to head out the door.
@kendonnelly Will do😍
@kendonnelly I started the Couch to 5K on Monday. I'm shocked! I really don't hate running!!!! It's taking me longer to get up to 20 minutes the first week. I'm not pushing myself too hard. I want to make running a habit not forced torture😍
@ReneeVoiceBrand good for you! I think it is really important to take it easy and not try to do more than they tell you to do (as I mistakenly did in the past). Right now I am anxious to run but I am waiting until tomorrow which is my scheduled day. And I have been running at a slow, comfortable pace.
@kendonnelly We're on the same page😍
@ReneeVoiceBrand I find running so peaceful and Zen when I don’t push it. Later after I get a base fitness established I will ramp up the speed and run some hills. But for now I just want to slowly build up stamina and enjoy the ride.
@kendonnelly Ditto😍 I'm actually enjoying running which is the antithesis of how I felt years ago.
Hooray for you Ken
@LnzyHou thanks, Lindsay! Next run is Tuesday. Looking forward to it already!
Hope you have new running shoes. I developed plantar faciitis training to walk the Camino. Found out too late.
@LnzyHou ouch! Yes, I have a new pair of Hoka’s. I learned my lesson by injuring both Achilles running in an old pair of shoes. Took a year to recover.
Likewise. Even tried cortisone in the sole of my foot. It hurt worse than having a baby. Even the doc had tears in his eyes. He knew.
BTW: shot worked one day.
@kendonnelly How would you suggest a 'newbie' being to run? I run for 10 seconds and stop!
