I just read this passage this morning in Marcus Aurelius' Meditations. I think it applies well to CoSo.
Maybe it's a good message for our new flood of members today?

*********************
"Two characteristics shared by gods and men (and every rational creature):

i. Not to let others hold you back

ii. To locate goodness in thinking and doing the right thing, and to limit your desires to that

Again - welcome, to all newcomers.

There are too many too quickly for us to welcome individually, and I feel bad for breaking this tradition.

You'll find CoSo is different, it's more mature, we value conversations, not likes, friendships, not followers, civility, not shouts.

Disagreements may happen, but we tend to resolve them as people, not as clashing faceless avatars.

So, jump on in, interject into any conversation that sounds interesting, and if you haven't done so, introduce yourself

I just spent my Sunday parsing and cleaning the California Penal Codes so I can load them into a database and analyze the history of the San Francisco DA's case-disposition.

My brain is fried.

And, looking at all of those offenses makes me want to take a shower.

With this trajectory, do you think that Blinken and Austin's visit is to plan an offensive? Maybe they know how to mitigate the nuclear threat if they can go deeper into Russia?

Really awesome to see CoSo listed as a Tw alternative along with TikTok and Instagram 😍

Thank you @Marmel 💛

The Belarusian railway workers who helped thwart Russia’s attack on Kyiv

"Starting in the earliest days of the invasion in February, a clandestine network of railway workers, hackers and dissident security forces went into action to disable or disrupt the railway links connecting Russia to Ukraine through Belarus, wreaking havoc on Russian supply lines."

Just spent an hour with my mother-in-law at her palliative care residence.

While terribly sad to see her decline, it teaches me so much about who we are and how we consider the world before us.

She's terrified, stressed and confused. The information coming in from her eyes and ears takes a long time to make sense. And she's very unhappy.

Data --> Information --> Comprehension --> Emotional reaction. When any of those steps get compromised, we are unhappy.

We still have so much to learn.

Got the rig updated with a new filter. Time to design and print some brackets.

"Dmitrievsky Chemical Plant burned down today on the outskirts of Moscow. This is the largest Russian manufacturer of chemical solvents. Located 250 miles EAST of Moscow. We are beginning to see a pattern develop."

This evening...
over a bottle of wine*...
I tried to explain to my wife....
how the fight in Ukraine..
could be our Great Filter....
and our test...
that billions of alien civilizations...
did not pass...
so that is why we are alone.

(*it was actually 2 bottles)

Leon Panetta just said, on CNN, that the specific ICBM launched by Russia could be taken out by our military and that we have nothing to worry about.
Based on my scant research on the topic, this seems over-confident relative to the available data on the US's counter-measures.
@Render, thoughts?

We had a little dinner party on Sunday with 6 friends.

This morning I find out that the friend sitting next to me tested positive for COVID.

Immediate reaction: Meh...

2X boosted, healthy, no symptoms.

I tested negative this morning, but will test again tomorrow.

As someone who tracks COVID data and was an avid proponent of slowing the spread, my current attitude is insightful for me. I'm over it.

I'll quarantine for a few days, but afterwards will plan to go on with life.

Hey @th3j35t3r , do you think this has any merit? The Ukr's will be very interested in retribution regardless of the outcome of the war. This data would provide them targets.

Looks like the Russians are going deep into Kyiv and executing sabotage to kill civilians and spread terror:

Florida!
Is there nothing normal in that state?
"Sheriff's deputies captured video of a large alligator crawling through a front yard in Florida before making its way into a community lake."
