@Render A friend of mine believes that if a passive material (like nails or epoxy) could be delivered into the barrel of a tank, it would render it useless if a shell were to be fired through it.
Have you heard of anyone considering this?

@jurban @Render Nails, by themselves, probably wouldn't do much. Just get blown out the barrel.

Not sure what effect an epoxy plug would have. It would be pretty hard to get a significant plug in there with a good bond. If large enough, will create a significant overpressure and break something, but I don't think anyone is going to let you sit around with hot glue and buckets of epoxy.

@FreedomATX @Render
Well, it would be all about jamming the shell using its own momentum. It's not about creating a plug.
For instance, a wedge, if not blown out, would force the shell against the side of the barrel and is either going to explode or severely damage the barrel.

@jurban @Render Maybe. It depends on if your blockage has enough friction against the barrel to significantly deflect the round. A tank round sits around a few million joules of kinetic energy. Redirecting that enough to damage the barrel would probably require you to weld it into place. Otherwise, barrel scoring and getting blown out the front.

@jurban @Render But, caveat: this is the kind of thing you can think about and theory about for weeks and come to find out that nails down the barrel creates some novel interaction that blows the whole thing to shit.

@FreedomATX @Render
Then maybe try to get the shell to explode? Hit the nose? I suspect they have a delayed enabler so they don't explode while being shot.

@jurban @FreedomATX

Uh...

How close to the loaded tank gun barrel is the shooter planning to be?

Who said it was a shooter? 🙂 That's the secret sauce.
