I'm a veteran. But I am not a fan of Veterans Day. It's never been a day off for me unless I take a PTO day yet too many government facilities and businesses close. It's like an official day of inconvenience.

A lot of people are blaming the Democrats for losing the election. But that ignores the state of the electorate. We have all those people who are regressive enough to vote Republican and too many people who decided to not vote this time, knowing that this would benefit the Republicans.

There's a large backlash on the Democratic But there are issues with the electorate. The regressiveness of the Trump / Republican supports is problematic. It is also problematic that there were fewer voters overall this time. I don't get how people who decide not to vote don't realize that fewer voters on one side benefits the other side. And those people who decided not to vote because of a few issues with the Democrats severely underestimate the dangers of the Republican party and Trump/Vance.

I was riding the Hampton Beach area today. I hadn't been there during high tide so I was surprised at how high it was. There was a beach here when I rode it during my last visit.

Someone claimed that I was only concerned about trivial things when I described myself as a social progressive with environmental concerns. As I described the long term effects of social and environmental conditions, he claimed that all of that is trumped by the soul. That illustrates part of the great divide between those of us concerned with things in the knowable real world and those convinced in the unknowable and probably false fantasies of religion.
