@johnldeboer Also, keep in mind, there are people who consider what they were able to destroy as their legacy.

@AskTheDevil Don’t they care about their legacy? That these particular justices could go down in history as being responsible for destroying the Supreme Court, not as just another institution, but as 1/3 of the three-legged stool that is vital for our democracy? Alito pretends to care in his rants about the press impugning the Court’s integrity - for no reason! Thomas obviously doesn’t care at all. Roberts, as the putative leader, cares, but he’s impotent. Ditto the 3 outgunned liberal women.

@AskTheDevil What SCOTUS doesn’t realize is that, if Trump gets elected, he’ll ignore any future rulings by the Court he doesn’t like. SCOTUS has no army, no enforcement capability. It depends on the other branches of government merely acceding to its status as the end-all and be-all of Constitutional authority without the power to back it up.

Tomorrow, on the last day of hearing oral arguments for the year, the Supreme Court will entertain Trump’s absolute immunity claim. SCOTUS has already demonstrated its affinity for Trump by one, taking the case to begin with; two, for putting a stay on the appeals court decision that no such immunity exists; and three, putting off the hearing until the last possible day in the session. But it took them less than a month to decide in favor of Trump in the Colorado ballot case. Need I say more?

Mind boggling! Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, launched in 1977, are 15 and 12 billion miles, respectively, from Earth. It takes about two days to send them a signal and receive one back. It would take another 400 years for the spacecraft to travel the distance light does in one year. And another 1200 years to reach the distance of the next nearest star besides our sun. And another 21,000 years to reach the distance of the nearest galaxy outside of the Milky Way.

@grrlscientist Homelessness bans are not enforceable. Period. These people don’t have money, so fines are worthless. Locking them up? Really? We’ll have jails full of street people on the taxpayer’s dime? Are we going back to debtors’ prisons? I don’t know how SCOTUS will rule on this, but I suspect Grant’s Pass will get the go-ahead to do something punitive. Yes, I agree, those towns would like the homeless among us to just go away - either die or become another town’s problem.

@AskTheDevil C”mon, man. Those were examples to make a point. How about you giving me an example of an acquittal based on jury fear of the accused? Jury nullification is a real thing, but I’ve never heard of it happening because of timidity, but to prevent “one of their own” from going to prison. Trump doesn’t have that kind of support, but he could have a juror who will deny evidence and cause a hung jury. A unanimous acquittal would mean the state failed, not that the jury was scared.

@AskTheDevil Using campaign funds to pay hush money might be a crime, but that has to be proved.

Sure, Trump gets special treatment because of his wealth and status, and this underlines the double standard in our justice system. But I don’t buy that this special treatment will be given by the twelve jurors in the case because of retribution fear. Al Capone was convicted. So was John Gotti. If anyone could reach out to get a juror whacked, they could.

My prediction, and it’s not because I”m a hand-wringing lib pessimist, is that Trump will at least get a hung jury if not an acquittal in the hush money trial. Too much reasonable doubt out there, IMHO. Falsifying business records, yes, that’s a fact. But it’s a misdemeanor. Extending that to an election-interference felony seems a bridge too far. That’s likely why the previous prosecutor didn’t pursue it. I hope I’m wrong, because I think he’s guilty. Easy for me to say. I’m not on the jury.

@LnzyHou Both Mission and La Banderita make those tortillas. I’ve found those brands in several supermarkets, including Walmart.

I made a prediction a number of years ago that colleges would hire players for their teams - employees who would have nothing to do with being student-athletes. With NIL and the transfer portal, and players heading to the NBA not having to even attend class after the first semester, this prediction has almost come to pass. Colleges are fast becoming like pro teams that have a city in front of their nickname for bragging rights, but no sense of belonging to the city or region.

@LnzyHou Al Dente makes Carba-Nada fettuccine which is pretty good. Still has carbs, but only 24 grams net, compared to around forty in the usual pasta. I’ve tried those substitutes for pasta and rice made with chick peas, cauliflower, or whatever, and they suck.(Agree about keto ice cream!) Keto bread, though, has made improvements. And I’ve found tortillas I use for wraps that only have 1 to 4 net carbs, depending on size, and they taste like regular tortillas.

NEW: MAGAs want segregation to be legal again — pushing for repeal of Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed segregated restaurants, buses, drinking fountains, etc.

If Trump wins and the Republicans retake Congress — this is what they’re planning

@AskTheDevil 3 The judge won’t jail him. Period. Trump knows that. Merchan and the other judges had the chance to sanction Trump meaningfully before - move the trial dates up with each infraction as Trump tried to delay them. But it’s too late for that now. This will be the only trial before the election, and Trump has a good chance to, if not win it, at least get a hung jury.

Tiger made the cut at the Masters for the 24th consecutive time, establishing still another record. But he finished dead last. And by the time St. Andrews rolls around for The Open venue again, Tiger will be in his fifties. Time to retire, man. You can still design golf courses, captain the Ryder Cup, and ride in a golf cart when playing golf for fun.

It’s painful to watch. For almost 30 years I’ve followed Tiger Woods achieve records in golf that will likely never be equaled. Only one record escapes him - most majors. To see him hobbling around in search of another Masters victory is sad. His reconstructed body and his age have finally done him in. Please, Tiger, retire now before the memories of your has-been years eclipse those wonderful feats you accomplished.

Two more days for Trump to get still another delay in his NY trial start. Will he do it again? I’m not betting against it.
