I do not know Jack Smith, and I have never practiced in federal criminal court. But as a former prosecutor, I have some thoughts about who he is and what his appointment as a special counsel means.

@jeffdavenport Seems like a delay/buck-passing tactic on the part of Garland/DOJ. Interested to hear your thoughts on that.
@rpardee I don't see it as a delay or buck-passing. That said - the decision could have been made long before now.
It's probably a good idea - all things considered. It avoids the appearance of a political conflict of interest.
Yeah - I have no idea. I suspect they picked someone with great competence and skill. Let's see his work and then we can decide.
