@th3j35t3r In the long term, the solution needs to be a critical mass of paying supporters. However, I'm doing my part to buy more time by joining Patreon (just did a few minutes ago) in addition to already having a paid account. I think this place can thrive in the long run and want to see it get that chance
@th3j35t3r I think the root of all evil on social media has been the monetization of user data. Protect us from that, and the rest will follow. I wouldn't object to ads if truly necessary to keep the site going, but only if they were not targeted and did not have access to user data in any way. For example: an occasional promoted toot that shows up for *everyone* would be annoying but acceptable; one that accesses my posts or profile to determine whether it is shown to me is not acceptable.

Each week, we’re going to remind us of the CO2 levels in the atmosphere. We must avoid a level of 450 parts per million for a chance to keep global warming below 2°C. If we don’t change how we do things, we’re likely to exceed the target in 10-15 years.
