@mickcarty Draconian in the extreme. We bring our kids up to work through school to go to Uni or to get a start in their chosen work. This discourages and stalls them for at least 2 years. It's madness. Not to mention taking them away from their families whether or not they or their families can cope with that!
There are valid reasons that National Service was stopped and it was not just the end of the war!
There are a lot who could do with it. And there is, supposedly, the option of monthly work. But, what if the vast majority ‘opt’ for the monthly? Where will they all be placed? What if they ‘opt’ not to cooperate? What will the punishments be?
We all know which level of society this is really aimed at. And I doubt they will be given much choice in where they are sent.
I still, though, think this is a dead cat intended to distract from some other real arguments.
@mickcarty @homebird I guess we should remember that they will say anything to be elected but often have no intention or no idea how it will be implemented.
@homebird @mickcarty
I thought there was the alternative of doing public service work for one weekend a month instead. So the military is not the only options. (I think I saw there if they refused they would not end up in prison either (after all there is no room for the real criminals)).
However, I can see that there are a lot of little sh*ts who could do with a damn good dose of military discipline.
