@Alfred please explain Carl Jung's concept of The Shadow.

From intrepid attorney and author Qasim Rashid.

This article’s headline is not clickbait, it is the sad reality, and we need to be ready.

I read the 900+ page Project 2025 fascist manifesto so you don’t have to. Here’s what you should know, and what steps we can take to respond.

“we regard loneliness as an enemy.

It’s restless and pregnant and hot with the desire to escape

When we can rest in the middle, a nonthreatening relationship with loneliness, a relaxing and cooling loneliness turns our usual fearful patterns upside down.

six ways of describing this kind of cool loneliness.

They are: less desire, contentment, avoiding unnecessary activity, complete discipline, not wandering in the world of desire, and not seeking security from one’s discursive thoughts”

New Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell says police will not participate in mass deportations: “What I can say here is any talk of mass roundups or the Police Department being involved in that thing, we don’t do that kind of thing.”

training in the middle way—in staying right on the spot.

We are encouraged not to judge whatever arises in our mind. In fact,

we are encouraged not to even grasp whatever arises in our mind. What we usually call good or bad we simply acknowledge as thinking"

WASHINGTON D.C. – After almost 250 years of data-gathering, the American experiment has ended in a catastrophic laboratory explosion.

“I don’t understand what went wrong!” sighed the facility’s chief scientist. “I added a flawed constitution, an electoral system designed by slave owners, a biased and corrupt supreme court, and centuries of frothing racism, violent sexism, and misguided exceptionalism. I followed the recipe to the letter!”

why they're afraid

“we don’t hear much about how painful it is to go from being completely stuck to becoming unstuck.

The process of becoming unstuck requires tremendous bravery,

because basically we are completely changing our way of perceiving reality

We are undoing a pattern that is not just our pattern. It’s the human pattern: we project onto the world a zillion possibilities of attaining resolution. This pattern keeps us dissatisfied and causes us a lot of suffering.”

“years and years of going to the left or right, going to yes or no, going to right or wrong has never really changed anything.

Scrambling for security has never brought anything but momentary joy. It’s like changing the position of our legs in meditation. Our legs hurt from sitting cross-legged, so we move them. And then we feel, “Phew! What a relief!”

We keep moving around seeking pleasure, seeking comfort, and the satisfaction that we get is very short-lived.”

seduced by Samsara.

“Our motivation for practicing begins to change, and we desire to become tamed and reasonable for the sake of other people. We still want to see how the mind works and how we get seduced by samsara, but it’s not just for ourselves. It’s for our companions, our children, our bosses—it’s for the whole human dilemma.”

it's worth reading in these days of disillusionment.

I have started a community resources page on my site listing resources that may be useful in the administration to come. It is still sparse but will grow as I add more links. If you have any suggestions of local, regional or national resources please let me know!

Did you ever read what Gertrude Stein wrote about the atom bomb when it was a new threat to existence? Those were very dark times like we are entering now. But she wanted us to think about our thinking more than what we feared. writing.upenn.edu/~afilreis/88

How To Start Resisting Trump's Second Term w/ Svante Myrick youtu.be/1tCWDVTV7RY

From a Vietnam vet who spent 6 years in the “Hanoi Hilton”describing how he survived:
“If your environment and circumstances control your attitude, you’re in prison. If you are in control of your thoughts and your attitude, then you’re free.”

Everybody has a role as we respond to the election and anticipate the changes to come.

Some folks will educate
Others will whip up energy for protest and resistance
Many will share fun distractions
And others will offer comfort or simple stability

Asking again to please not judge how folks cope and how they express themselves here—people may be doing more than surmised from their posting.

Give grace, receive grace, and use the resources for your benefit.

I think I might take some time today to read Pema Chodron’s When Things Fall Apart. “How can we live our lives when everything seems to fall apart - when we are continually overcome by fear, anxiety, and pain?”

What do we do after disaster?

Chop wood, carry water.

We have to try. We can't give up. We have to take care of each other as best we can. We can't let ourselves be silenced. We have to circle up, backs to backs, and protect one another, especially those who are most vulnerable to this oncoming future. We have to find a way to hold on to whatever is nailed down well enough in America that they cannot steal it, whatever structures and bulwarks can take our weight.

"Therefore let us lie in wait for the righteous;
because … he upbraideth us with our offending the law,
and objecteth to our infamy.…

He professeth to have the knowledge of God:
and he calleth himself the child of the Lord.

He was made to reprove our thoughts."

Not from mere thoughtfulness and unconsciousness, but from a deeper motive,

the Wisdom of Solomon here touches on the sore spot.

the Wisdom of Solomon internalized Job's message. too bad its pearls are ignored and trampled.

"The unrighteous and the ungodly,
however, say:

Let us oppress the poor righteous man,
let us not spare the widow,
nor reverence the ancient gray hairs of the aged.
Let our strength be the law of justice:
for that which is feeble is found to be nothing worth."
