here's how one grey squirrel shakes seeds out of a squirrel buster🙈.
another, larger one, used to actually lift it off the hook and drop it to the ground, until i put something over the hook and attached the loop to a caribiner🫨
i'm telling you, the squirrel challenge is intersubjactive🤔
@holon42 I know! Each time I figure out a way to thwart them, they find a workaround. They are relentless & so intelligent. #SquirrelWars
@holon42 I have one of those baffles under the bird feeder it worked well. Now they dive from the trees to land on the bird feeder. Not sure where to move it they cant jump to either.
yeah, one managed to jump onto the cone and grab onto the gorilla tape, which is not as slippery as the plastic 🚸🫨
i'm trying the slinky solution next.
@holon42 I considered a huge umbrella as a top version of a baffle.
it would have to be something they can't chew through or they just land on it and carry on.
🤎🧡💛
Can we just take a moment to focus on that black squirrel I'm seeing on the ground?
I've never seen a black squirrel before and that's really cool! ❤️
black squirrels are a 🇨🇦mutation, although they are spreading south too.
i think it's because they can absorb sun heat better in winter. i often see them soak up the rays on the downwind side of big trees on sunny days in winter.
in summer they wallow around in the cool grass and mulch shaded areas.
here's one of the engineers who i may finally have convinced it's not worth the effort.
what you see there is only the tip of the contraption below i've had to improvise. i had to gorilla tape the seams because he was popping the rivets.
unreal.
