anybody know what this is? it's several times the size of any house cat around here, but it has a collar. i wonder if it's a tracking collar.

ah, i wondered if that might be it. it's huge. new arrival trying to stalk my birds and squirrels.

@holon42 That is a housecat. Looks about the size of our mutt housecat of 20+ years, probably around 16-18 lbs, at a guess.

it's huge actually. the photos don't do its size justice. about a metre from nose to tail. someone suggested Maine coon cat, which makes sense, since they live with humans too.
@holon42 That's actually about the size of our old cat or a main-coon as others have suggested, though it doesn't look like an MC. It could also be descended from one of those cats that's been crossed with an ocelot or other wild cat.
it's an interesting arrival anyway. i intend to discourage hunting in my garden though 🤨
