Postcard series were like little films serialized over six or so postcards. You could keep the postcard recipient guessing as the various cards arrived in their mail. This is one of a series in which a little girl tends to her sick dog. Here the child doctor has arrived for consultation and treatment plan (spoiler alert: it ends with the dog trotting out of bed, perfectly recovered). Probably the prescription was a chewbone.
