Does research want for funding because of that dogma? Absolutely. But in the modern era at least, there are too many people doing good research to suppress new theories or those that challenge dogma for long. There is in fact few things scientists like more than to put holes in, disprove, or cause modifications to longstanding theories, sometimes even their own. On the contrary, religious dogma is inherently unchallengeable and usually requires a singular entity to reinterpret/update it.
