These used to grow within hiking distance of a rural school where I taught. We'd take the occasional field trip to see them. Sometimes in swampy areas. One place was beside a well house where the water overflowed. All areas considered "serpentine seeps." I had a few dried samples that were great conversation starters. The local species was Darlingtonia californica.
