I think people are still in the phase where the bad things are not real to us.

We say we're scared. We say we're outraged.

But we're still going through the ritualistic motions of conflict, outrage, and fear.

We're excited (not in a good way) and agitated, but almost nobody is _behaving_ as if they see an existential threat. They're just _talking_ like they see one.

I don't think it's really sunk in yet.
