@peeppeepcircus I've seen really fierce displays with adult males in mating season. Breast to breast bashing eachother

@gemswinc oh yeah, even roos can fight to the death. was thinking about having my own quail but I was surprised to learn just how they can be so especially vicious to each other

birds are metal

and real

@peeppeepcircus I assumed you had witnessed much, to the death! That I have not seen!

@gemswinc roos are super warriors, they are prepared to defend their flock to the end, even against the biggest predators. i still pour one out for one heroic roo that took on a bobcat to save his hens. which he did.

@QueenOfEverything @gemswinc

hens too. they are so brave.

there's one story about a hen out there i will post when i find it again. it moved me deeply, the bravery.

@QueenOfEverything @gemswinc

btw, some roos grow up to be super aggressive, no matter how much love you give them as they grow up. but there's a good reason for that warrior instinct. i have a collection of scars from those. 😂 less heroic, more like obnoxious.

@peeppeepcircus @gemswinc

Just got my first scratch from the cat formerly known as Guinevere (with green eyes) who is now definitely Lancelot. It's been cold and rainy here, and I think he had a really bad night. I went to pick up the empty bowls and he swiped me with his claws. Just 2 pin pricks. Never done that before, but alley life can be hard on a cat. Their chemistry for defense stays high. Roosters are in charge of the WHOLE FLOCK- I bet they're aggressive!

@peeppeepcircus @gemswinc

Ha! went right out and brought in my long sleeves leather rose gloves. I also put a broom out on the deck. I usually pick up the empty bowls first thing but he was there waiting. So when I reached to get the bowl he swatted. Now I've got the broom to reach for dishes instead of my arm. Still will use the rose gloves when he's out on the deck.

@QueenOfEverything You took him seriously! He is feral, does he go into the house.. or? @peeppeepcircus

@gemswinc @peeppeepcircus

No, but he now sits right at the sliding door, and he would have come in today- I blocked him. I’ve got 3 indoor only cats, 2 are 16 yrs old- so I can’t let him in. I’m checking on an outside shelter for him… but will have to get some part time gigs to support my elderly cats vet bills & my outdoor feral friends. 💰🙀💰
