More pines coming down, lost to Southern Pine Beetle. My yard is a whole new world.

@rpardee Most definitely. All I can do is keep calm and carry on.

One thing that I have learned, though, is that living dead trees, which I like to do for the environment, can backfire. During last year's tornado, dead, and live pines fell, and took out live oaks. I can't afford to lose the oaks, that is another reason I am having more of the dead trees taken out.

@gemswinc heartbreaking, bud
imagine how the birds feel bereft of perches, nests and aerial view.

@pennyphilosophy Of course, breaks my heart. Birds are my special friends. i've had a pine warbler here for years all spring. This year it showed up, but then left, not enough Pines.

@gemswinc We have a pine virus.. costing me a grand per tree and losing 1 majestic friend every year :(

@TrueBloodNet That is a shame. Besides being very sad, this whole thing is very expensive. Mostly oaks left.

@gemswinc Man I feel ya. I lost my ash trees to emerald ash borer, the borers brought Dutch elm disease to my 100 year old elms, the two of those made my woods look like a disorganized Tunguska. Now the pines. I have oaks and maples, a few basswood... but the buckthorn moved in so I have to fight those all summer long.

I'm considering adding red cedars and a couple hickory trees.

GL to us all.

@TrueBloodNet I'll be taking down maybe 20 this year. Been going on for quite awhile. Try to leave snags and some dead ones where safe. Heartbreaking, but I will look at it as an opportunity to start again. I won't live long enough to see the results.

@gemswinc Where possible I take my own down. But the dead pine is leaning towards my shed. It will require someone to climb it, cut and drop it in sections. The last one, was 4' from my door... so I didn't risk it. LOL The big ash got hit by lightning so that mostly came down by itself. The giant 'survived Dutch Elm' tree was so big it took 2 folks holding hands to surround it. Being right by the road I could not risk it taking out everyone's electric. That was almost $3K...
