Oh. My. Goddess. I need to take a shower. I actually agree with Rand Paul.
🤮
“I don’t like tariffs, but then again I don’t like the president promoting tariffs. I think tariffs are a tax on the consumer”
Not really something you have to think about: it IS a tax for the consumer.
Sad that the new media forgot this.
Still think MSM isn’t complicit? It’s only basic economics.

I feel so… dirty…
@feloneouscat Yeah, those tariffs are a terrible idea... especially since they're so broad, and fully-domestic supply chains simply do not exist for many (perhaps even most) of the products that will be covered.
Introducing them as a shock amplifies the stupidity further... even if you *are* going to do something like introduce tariffs, it's best to give the market tons of warning & make the introduction slow/gradual, say <1% per year, to give supply chains lots of time to adapt ahead of time.
@feloneouscat And in any case, if one wants a shift towards domestic production, IMHO the best way to do it is via NON-MARKET interventions like the creation of state industry.
Markets are, and always will be, fickle - especially in a globalized world. Trying to get them to do what you want is a bit like trying to shove an octopus in a duffelbag: while it can theoretically be done, it's maddeningly difficult, prone to backfiring, and requires constant effort to stay on top of it.
@feloneouscat Of course, I'm quite certain all (or at least the overwhelming majority of) MAGA Republican officials would begin foaming at the mouth, convulsing, and furiously screaming about "SOCIALISM" at the mere mention of non-market interventions...
'Cause doing otherwise would require looking outside their myopic, brainwashed little bubbles; at this point I'm pretty sure pigs will sprout wings and take flight several centuries before that happens.
@feloneouscat You're filthy. Agreeing with that guy. LOL
