I remember having free roam of the town (<2k people) when I was 10 or so. If I hadn't, I would've gone bloody stir-crazy! No wonder so many American kids are being diagnosed with ADHD... they're bouncing off the walls from a lack of independence.
And no wonder their parents fight so much over responsibilities! Ouch.
@feloneouscat Also - no wonder so many couples decide not to have kids! They're both trying to hold down full-time jobs and yet people expect them to spend all their time helicoptering around their kids?
That's just not realistic - people can't work (and yes, I do consider parenting *work* too, it's something that has to be done whether we feel like doing it or not) 25 hours a day and keep their sanity intact... they need time to breathe or the workload will slowly crush them.
