John Oliver FINALLY gets it: “I am mad for trans people who’ve been threatened. I’m disgusted at the prospect of mass deportation. I’m furious at Biden for not dropping out earlier and that the egos and inaction of two men older than credit cards themselves have led us to this point,”

Still arguing both sides are the same, eh John?

This is why Trump is President-Elect. You should have picked a side. Instead you decided to go with blaming Democrats.

Own it.

@feloneouscat
When was John Oliver a both sides guy? Sounds more like Jon Stewart.

@Helical_Code @feloneouscat He isn't. Neither is Jon Stewart. This is a mischaracterization.

He isn't remotely saying they are equivalent. He IS SAYING Biden let his own ego get in front of what was best for the country.

Pelosi was right. He started implying he was a transition president, making way for someone else. Then he reneged and it took too damned long to accept reality and step down.

Biden did a lot of good. But he also contributed to this massive failure being stubborn.

@S_r_stone
Not to negate any of this, but I think you have to wind back to at least 2008 to get at all of the dynamics in play.

@feloneouscat

@Helical_Code @feloneouscat. Hell, I count most evil back to 1980 with Reagan and Newt.

But just because some elder person in Congress had a good career doesn't mean they deserve to hurt their side by holding on waaay too long. Diane Feinstein is personally responsible for holding up judge appointments.

I used to oppose term limits, but if we can't otherwise remove the incumbent advantage then I reconsider, particularly the Senate.

SCOTUS terms should be 20 years rather than lifetime, too.

@Helical_Code @feloneouscat We needed a vigorous primary, not a "Oh shit, we have to appoint someone and make up lost ground!"

But don't get it twisted that people worried about this outcome weren’t the problem. The U.S. government should look like America.

Wait until the conservatives replace their older justices with 40 year olds so we are stuck for several generations.

@S_r_stone @Helical_Code

Both John Oliver and Jon Stewart both sides it.

Oliver trying to make it Biden’s fault… except the STATES are the ones that get to make that decision… Huh… Maybe Oliver’s crew need to read the fucking Constitution instead of Wikipedia:

"I’m furious at Biden for not dropping out earlier and that the egos and inaction of two men older than credit cards themselves have led us to this point”

Okay, here is the point: Trump is the WORST CANDIDATE in the history of the Presidency. He is a rapist, a convict an insurrectionist, he stole government documents, he tried to get a state to change the votes, he applied pressure on a foreign government, he was impeached twice.

@S_r_stone @Helical_Code

There is no reality where Biden stepping down would have changed Trump being the worst candidate ever.

What changed things was the Main Stream Media giving Trump a pass on everything. Did they mention his convictions? Only half heartedly. Did they mention his illegal acts? Sure, way back when it didn’t matter. Did they mention Harris? Only to say, “We need to know more about her”—she was only the VP for the last four years!

Harris is a far better candidate.

@S_r_stone @Helical_Code

But the news organizations realized that Fox News gets WAY more money and attention by lying than by telling the truth.

Look, this is up to 2022. Who would you rather be if you wanted to be a gazzilionaire?

@S_r_stone @Helical_Code

"During the month of March, FNC was number one in all of cable in total day and primetime viewership and beat CNN and MSNBC across the board with double and triple advantages. Additionally, FNC occupied more than half the audience share among total viewers and swept every hour in the 25-54 demo.”

That is insane. A company that regularly lies to its audience was #1.

@feloneouscat
I think Trump is the worst person to ever have run for any office in the US. I'm having a hard time coming up with anyone in the US in public life who is a worse human being.

@S_r_stone

@Helical_Code @S_r_stone

So, what it boils down to is not, “How could Harris done better” — she couldn’t, Trump started out as a horrible human being, has terrible policies and is just a dumb human being.

Anyone could have won with that combo.

So it had to be something OTHER than Harris’ qualities.

So what do you do when you have a defective product? You advertise that it is NOT defective.

PR, propaganda, whatever you want to call it.

And get news orgs to participate.

@Helical_Code @S_r_stone

I’m not saying it was a EXPLICIT coordination effort, but an implicit one.

Except for WaPo, that was pretty damning. But it shows you that there was some top-down push to assure a Trump win.

I think at the heart was a fear that Harris would force the rich to pay what they owe in taxes.

Funny how the news seemed to gloss over that. Almost as if they didn’t want voters to know it.

@feloneouscat I agree. That said, if Beyoncé and Taylor Swift can't get people to vote, John Oliver and Jon Stewart certainly weren't going to.
