The Freedom of Choice Act was 2007. Roe was not on the chopping block. Obama wasn’t President.
His comment was made while he was working to prevent the country going full Second Depression.
IIRC Congress didnt present him with a Freedom of Choice bill. 🤷🏻♀️
@feloneouscat Obama had incredible levels of support when he was sworn in. When he said he learned from Reagan I hoped he meant leveraging his popularity and going to the people to pressure Congress. That was not the case. Even ACA is a warmed over Republican think tank creation, not a popular Public Option or Universal Healthcare model. That popular support was wasted.
There actually WAS a public option but it was killed in order to get Lieberman’s vote. Lieberman refused to vote for it unless the public option was removed.
Without Lieberman there would have been no ACA.
@feloneouscat I hate that people like him ignore the hundreds of court cases fought to protect democracy, the thousands of poll workers endangering their lives to protect democracy, and the millions of individuals who have been working through deep family struggles because they refuse to just ignore family politics. I know those issues aren’t funny, but the joke is going to be on Oliver and his team if his whataboutism wins out.
