and in Jim Crow the south got to count everybody as a 100% person while still denying Black representation and enfranchisement. Giving the southern states even more concentrated power
It was the Voting Rights Act that squelched (made states get more creative until Robert’s court) by recognizing and making it more difficult for states to disenfranchise.
Then the Robert’s Court said, “Hey, we don’t need the law because look, the states aren’t discriminating!
Like saying we don’t need laws about murder because the murder rate is plummeting.
Once they gutted it, guess what happened? States started disenfranchising voters.
@feloneouscat understanding our place in history requires knowledge, much of which is up to the individual to acquire, in an increasingly unreliable environment of ‘information’ … and empathy… and self reflection
so I am not feeling optimistic
