Fast Five is more like a caper. It is all silly and you have to suspend your disbelief with huge cables (physics doesn’t exist in these movies!) but if you go into them as being silly you ought to have a good time.
One thing surprised me was how much the stories depended on the concept of family, even if the family were people unrelated. It wasn’t till Fast X that the scripts actually were decent.
Fast X is annoying because its half a movie — we won’t see what happens until Fast 11.
As a whole I wouldn’t watch all of them again — except Fast Five (partner wants to watch it and I think they would be entertained).
A surprise was Gal Gadot in the movies as well as Helen Mirren (whose cockney accent is awesome!) and Jason Stratham (who seems to be playing his Transporter character). In Fast X, Jason Momoa is the big bad and he predictably eats the scenery. Also the legendary Rita Moreno (who I crushed on as a child).
It’s an odd series and I can see why it has a fan base.
Another aspect about these films is how much bloodless death there is. Vehicles are destroyed with no bloodshed. It is a young person playing where vehicles are proxies for bodies.
Our heroes may get bloodied as well as the bad guys, but the gore many movies seem to relish are absent. The only time I recall blood was someone dropped onto the blades of a submarine and the water gun splurt painting a wall. But it was brief.
