LIDAR is a technology that allows one to tell distances using light. It’s simple, cost effective, crazy accurate and Elon Musk thinks it’s the Antichrist. He, as a “engineer”, wouldn’t allow them on Tesla vehicles.
That is when I knew he was no engineer.
Instead, they attempt to use cameras to determine distance (which is non-trivial and the greater the distance, the more space must exist between cameras).
He’s no engineer. He’s cheap.

@feloneouscat @MeTheUnfiltered I tend to agree with you. The primary reason that SpaceX has done so well is that he hired people much smarter than he is and they'll tell him "no" when they need to. He doesn't have that elsewhere.
