Getting killed or seriously injured will ruin Christmas a hell of a lot more than not having whatever you think you need for it.

Lose your keys. Disconnect your battery. Slash your tires. Whatever it takes.

Roadkilled people make a helluva mess.
Demanding spouse? Make a big show of going out, then sit out there for a few minutes. Then, come back inside, exasperated.

Although, I've seen my share of frozen and busted motor blocks and\or blown gaskets. Some people don't think to have their coolent tested to avoid it from freezing.
I've seen people who had just water and I'm sure you can imagine the rest.
When I lived In Alaska we ran our cars all the time when temps fell below 0⁰F. It dipped into -40⁰F for a couple weeks and everybody was froze stiff but one guy in the village who ran his Jeep 24\7. Needless to say, he was an busy Good Samaritan.
