Yeah, they really did drop the ball on that one. I've been following the case when it reared its' head, and sometimes the arrogance of certain parties really made / makes them look imbecilic.

It’s the basic rule of criminal prosecution that you don’t hide evidence. It’s not only unethical, if discovered, the judge can dismiss the case without the possibility of a re-trial, just like they did here.

It’s the ultimate no-no for prosecutors.

Yup. Mistrials often result and things become Higgledy-Piggledy ("a real mess" - Mike Binkley, Bloom County).
