@estherschindler True Story: I found out that a guy who keeps a plane at my airport bought a missile silo in Nebraska for $30k and used it as a hidey-hole for Y2K. He was a doomsday prepper. He showed me all of the photos of his setup, he converted one floor of the silo rooms into his bedroom, and the main control room area became his living room.
When Y2K came and went and it was not the end of the world, he rented it back to the govt for 3 years for SuperFund clean up.
@gshevlin @estherschindler if you are ever in Tuscon you can take a tour of the missle silo that has been restored. You can even turn the key! Tours are given by former missile officers and it’s well worth the 10 bucks.
