As well as being a twist on that old question of would you go back in time and kill Hitler as a baby, it was drawn from a famous scene from the seminal Genesis Of The Daleks when the Fourth Doctor asks Sarah Jane

"if someone... told you that that child would grow up to be totally evil... could you then kill that child?"

The story doesn't even try to hide its main influence, with the scene in question featuring in the episode itself.

Gonna watch a few episodes again starting with the magicians apprentice - And, as you would expect for an episode that featured Missy, the Daleks and two versions of Davros, it was an episode that wore its Doctor Who-ness on its sleeve

After all, Capaldi was 5 years old when he watched An Unearthly Child when it was first aired, back in 1963. He’d been there from the beginning, so he brought a unique perspective when playing the role.

I think the Capaldi era might even age better than any of the other new Doctor’s. He presented a flavour of the classic version mixed with the new.

@QueenOfEverything @InvaderGzim taking on Davros, the Fisher King, Lady Me, Zygons, or even that nefarious sleep dust you might wake up with in the corner of your eyes… they all failed to match the insidious evil of the Time Lords themselves and their little Confession Dial/torture chamber. Although I wasn’t quite sold on the sudden urgency of the threat of the Hybrid, Heaven Sent was truly one of the best hours of the Capaldi era

I don't think he got over the fact BBC went with moffat as lead writer after RTDs 1st series with Eccleston wasn't as successful as BBC hoped - it took me year before I even watched that 1st reboot series srsly I watched the next two series's with Tennant before circling back to watch Eccleston series - and tbh that series is probably the worst I've seen as a whole - again it did have its + side the "bad wolf" throughout I liked which set up future episodes

I'm a diehard whovian though lol I'll always see a + or at least look for one in episodes - sometimes it takes a few watches to "get it"

Cross reference with older episodes also sometimes makes the penny drop on what an episode is really about

I would disagree with worst scripts ever

Capaldi raign we saw a heck of a lot of tie in's to old who as well as the whole the Dr created the daleks twist - same as Jodie Whittaker raign - again not every episode was awesome or even good but they deffo weren't all bad - Whittaker we saw the drs real identity being revealed and the cyberman-timelord twist with the brilliant "master" actor was awesome imo
