In case you don't wanna go to x for the #Crowdstrike workaround
There is a workaround...
1. Boot Windows into Safe Mode or WRE.
2. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike
3. Locate and delete file matching "C-00000291*.sys"
4. Boot normally.
😜
Happy Friday
the Verge reports that for machines that aren't automatically receiving Crowdstrike's newly-released software fix, Microsoft has released a recovery tool that creates a bootable USB drive.
Some IT admins have reported rebooting PCs multiple times will get the necessary update, but for others the only route is having to manually boot into Safe Mode and deleting the problematic CrowdStrike update file. Microsoft's recovery tool now makes this recovery process less manual, by booting into its Windows PE environment via USB, accessing the disk of the affected machine, and automatically deleting the problematic CrowdStrike file to allow the machine to boot properly.
@ecksmc Cheers Eric. I haven't checked my laptop yet today. It's businesses with hundreds or thousands of machines I feel sorry for.
Be extra kind to your tech support people today, folks.
@stueytheround Home computers should not be affected - number of businesses that have ceased operation is staggering though
CrowdStrike typically provides its Falcon security platform to large businesses and enterprise customers only
@ecksmc Cool.
@ecksmc
And sorry about Crowdstrike.
#$^@#&*% motherfucker I swear to you, I thought it was Saturday. But it is not.
