Here’s the cleanest look you’ll find of the new Android robot.

Google said that we should start seeing the new Android branding and 3D bugdroid on devices and “in more places” as early as this year

Google confirmed that they were working on a brand overhaul and planned to share more in the coming months. That new branding is now official with font and more on the 3D robot included.

Google announced the news in a blog post, sharing that the typeface for Android now includes a capital “A” at the front, instead of the lowercase “android” we have come to know

@ecksmc It has always bothered me that a robot is NOT an android. Guess they will continue to bother me 😝

@ecksmc not sure bug is a term I want related to my electronics but I'm not a marketing expert either 😅

@dratino it's always been called bugdroid unofficially that is that's not new

The Android mascot was never officially named. For a while the name Andy was associated with the logo — potentially referring to Android’s creator Andy Rubin — but we’re not sure where that came from. The Android team called it Bugdroid, and that name is as close as you’ll get to an official moniker.

@ecksmc i stopped messing around with android builds with Eclair i think. It was fun running custom roms and seeing how fast and smooth you could get them to run on your phone.
