@duglop Our religious class on Tuesdays was more like Sunday school. Happy and less than an hour. I didn't like going to church at the Holiness or Missionary Baptist Church my stepfather went to. You had to stay there all damn day and all night,even on Sunday night and Wednesday night during Bible study and Thursday night choir rehearsal,and Friday night prayer meeting. We would be there past midnight. Ugh. 3+ hour sermons. Boring.

@duglop Just like now in 2024,there weren't any "gifted classes" for kids of color in the poor part of town,so I was stuck with the neighborhood school,and my mom and grandma didn't listen to the principal's suggestions that I get skipped to 3rd grade instead of kindergarten in 1966. They didn't think I was "ready". A mistake,maybe. I was already hanging around adults and older kids by age 3. I don't think religion would have helped at all with my behavior issues. (2/)

@duglop I should have never been in any organized school. Period. I was reading before 18 months old,which kids in Black and Brown neighborhoods didn't do, especially in poor areas like where we lived in Boyle Heights and then across town in South Central. Then being a neighborhood "celebrity" and forced into stuff like acting etc instead of being a normal kid? That caused a lot of jealousy and bullying. At some point,I started acting out and getting into trouble. (1/)

@duglop If someone doesn't have any mental order, mental hygeine, like you can get from critical thought, logic, emotional intelligence, knowledge of your moral compass, et al, they're far more vulnerable to cognitive biases, and manipulation of their biases and instincts.

People often seem like "nice folks" but they were really just running some program based on what they _think_ their band expects of them, but because they have no character or mind of their own, it's easy to change.

@duglop It is a memetic contagion. It works like a virus, except instead of being made of DNA/RNA, made of concepts.

A person might be open to or unprotected from dangerous ideas, especially due to lack of practice at critical thought, or emotional bias.

Once part of the idea system creeps in, if unchecked, it becomes a program running on the brain's hardware and starts altering other ideas around it to make room.

Fear, Dunning-Kruger, selfishness, hurt, they can all provide vectors.

@duglop Ours was just called "released time",which was the last 45 minutes of school on Tuesdays. That was usually PE time anyway at my elementary school. It was mostly the stuff they talked about at Sunday school,which is usually the one part of church kids like at Black churches: it's not 3 hours long like the actual service lol. I stopped going to church after the pastor kicked me out of the band for playing drums at age 15.

@duglop

It's rather like a mind or thought virus.

Very contagious, even though it makes no sense that it would work.

Funny that the opposition talks about a woke mind virus, which we know is nonsense.

Maybe more projection from them.

It is distressing when friends or family come down with it anyway.

@duglop

you're right about stuff that locks drawers though. i have a few containers that like to do that if they get out of alignment.

@duglop Sorry if I confused you. I went to public school. My brother went to what would now be considered a "Christian heritage academy" so he could be "disciplined better" aka get away from gangbangers like my cousins at public school. They ENFORCED that Bible shit on him and fellow students. Including the Ten Commandments on the board. And lots of prayer time instead of learning reading etc. Indoctrinating kids early. Plus spanking students.

@duglop

Gemini is USELESS.

I am very upset about it and appalled that they want to charge for the advanced version. Advanced what? It still can't do anything.

I was catching up with an old friend earlier (been almost a year), this dude was a stout voice for Dems... after some pleasantries were shared he went into conspiracy after conspiracy, so I was like, dude, this doesn't sound like you! He then informed me that he's no longer a liberal, and proceeded to blame Biden for everything he could, even after I reminded him about the GOP failures... needless to say the call & friendship ended with a "block"
sigh - I just don't get what caused him to flip

@duglop

Don't make me try that.

I once cursed at it because it wouldn't do what I said and it admonished me.

So now I curse under my breath. That should be embarrassing. I am a slave to these things.

I told him to ask her and he said "she is not responsive" OH, my I said, I just spoke with her. He informed me that my mom was in shock from three different angles and would likely NOT survive this. Hypovolemic shock (from a GI Bleed) septic shock (from an infection) and cardiogenic shock (from Congestive Heart Failure). She had quite a ride, but I am happy to report that I picked her up from the hospital yesterday and we arrived home in Maryland about an hour ago.

@duglop

Me: Hey Google, add lemons to my shopping list.

Google: I would but I don't recognize your voice.

Me: I'm the only person who lives here! 😭

But if the TV asks a question and doesn't even use the buzz word, it carries on a full conversation with itself for half an hour. 💀

LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO - so I just asked my Google Home a question, and it answered it but then kept answering the TV - that was quite entertaining...
