Race-based hatred is racist regardless of who's hating / who they hate, & it's ALWAYS dangerous.

There's simply no need to make it about race, because so far as I can tell race held no particular relevance in that case - and even if it had, other factors (schizophrenic paranoia/delusions; likely psychopathy; possible PTSD; the fact that as a spec ops soldier he was trained and expected to be able to kill; etc) were clearly more prominent determinants.

Seems like:
A) he's probably a psychopath given eyewitness descriptions [FWIW IIRC psychopaths are much more common in spec ops than in regular units]; &
B) It seems paranoia/delusions (mental illness) may've been a factor.
