why? just because someone claims they're being censored doesn't mean they're right, nor is there anything wrong with certain forms of "censorship." am I being "censored" because I can't yell FIRE in a crowded theater? it's not even the govt censoring these people, it's private entities upholding their civic responsibility to truth in election information.

and continuing to portray Trump's openly fascist rhetoric as "dark" minimizes the grave threat he poses to our future. DO BETTER, MEDIA. CALL A SPADE A FUCKING SPADE ALREADY.

wow, somehow both responses managed to get it wrong. user data privacy isn't nearly as big of a concern as the reality of Chinese influence over Americans using the app. (as an aside, users complaining about the ban just speaks to how worryingly addicted they are.) if this was a Russian or Saudi-owned app being used to influence US opinion/elections, I doubt we'd even hesitate to ban it.

didn't they just elect AMLO? how often does Mexico hold presidential elections?

idk what they mean by "treating people like commodities," all I know is if it wasn't for online dating I wouldn't be married and I probably wouldn't even be alive right now (nor would my two kids)

ok I am CERTAIN I've seen this blurb in the Morning newsletter before, in fact I'm certain I've had this exact reaction to this blurb in the Morning newsletter, wtf is going on?!

@dietotaku MSM is owned by 6 Mega Corporations. They answer to tax breaks/shareholders NOT the public interest. Rinse. Repeat.

@dietotaku What they mean by treating people like commodities is that those businesses don't really care about you or your relationship, they know people are lonely and will pay money, and they'll take advantage of that to separate them from their money, and they'll also separate you from data they'll sell. In addition, they'll try to metricize relationships, convincing people that some people are higher value than others, and charge for access to _them_.

@dietotaku I know several people who _did_ find good relationships through online dating. But I've also known people who won some money gambling. Most lose more than they gain, but the success stories draw more customers in, even though most of those customers will not have a good outcome.

@AskTheDevil i mean yeah, you're not guaranteed to find the love of your life through online dating, but what's the alternative? especially if you're an introvert who doesn't like alcohol or crowded bars/clubs. online seems like a more efficient way to narrow down who i'm compatible with in a comfortable environment. but then i was never in it to "hook up" in the first place, maybe that's the key.

@dietotaku My method was that I went out and met people even though it was scary and difficult. Of course, I also have no problem waiting a few centuries, so what works for me may not work for you.

And you can do that online without using an online dating service, too.

I have no problem with online dating services. I have a problem with them being scummy and harmful like they are.

The response to being afraid to get out there may be courage. Comfort zones only shrink if you don't expand them.

@dietotaku Trump calls some human beings not-people and calls for violence if he doesn't get his way.
