My local photographer friend:

The rocket right at liftoff from Vandenberg, ~200 miles away as the crow flies.

Coffee Pot fire to the left. Three Rivers down below. The fire base camp in Three Rivers is the bright glow. They have to keep it lit up as a safety precaution.

The Milky Way was partially hidden by clouds.

@dauphin87 Night launches rock. I can see launches at the Cape from here in Tampa area, 136 miles to my place. It can light up the sky with the right conditions. We can’t see lift off because we are near sea level here.

@dauphin87

What a great snapshot of the delicate balance we live in.

Seeing the rocket's ascent from so far away, yet feeling connected to the enormity of it all.

The contrast between the Milky Way, the mountains, the city, the fire, and human achievement... soaring between them...

What a powerful visual story!
